We’re a bunch of creative writers who became freelance copywriters who joined forces to form a professional writing company in Indianapolis. We’d really love an opportunity to write for you.

Ryan Brock

Position: Founder & CEO

Twitter@ryanbrock

There are a number of things Ryan Brock would count among his favorites. The taste of licorice is not one of them. Born on Lindsey Air Base in Wiesbaden, Germany, he is a lifelong American citizen and has thoroughly enjoyed his time stateside. He enjoys music and literature and while he finds reading Joyce to be a chore, he certainly understands what others find appealing about works like The Dead. You can often find him enjoying some coffee with friends at the local cafe, but he would prefer you don’t try. He is passionate about the power of storytelling and really good cooking in the pursuit of a better world.

Brock is the co-author of Nothing New: An Irreverent History of Storytelling and Social Media.

Cy Wood

Position: Staff Writer

Politics. International Relations. Literature. Business. Creative Writing. Any attempt to pigeonhole Scott Blanton’s wide experience is doomed to failure. Raised on an alpaca farm outside of Indianapolis, Blanton brings to our team a certain genuine worldliness. His great passions in life are poetry and creative writing, but his first loves all have something to do with shearing farm animals or living off the land. If you’re in the mood to discuss literature or the merits of the Welsh countryside, you only need offer him a chair and a cold pint of cider.

Blanton is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis, and has written for Etchings and Examiner.com.

Cy used to think he was a dark, mysterious writer. He may have been, once. Now, only the writer part holds true. He prefers modern fiction—the darker the better—but appreciates good old-fashioned literature as well. Born and raised a Hoosier, he spends as much time possible traveling, enjoying things that aren’t the Midwest. You will often find him listening to good music, or playing one of his too many guitars. There is always a song stuck in his head. He believes the art of telling a good story is endangered and goes out of his way save it from going the way of the dodo bird. He is also an amateur cyclist, becoming increasingly amateur by the day.

Cy is a graduate of DePauw University. He writes for StereoSubversion.com and has published two short stories.

Nate Brock

Position: Chief Intern

Twitter@nategbrock

Theresa Beckhusen has transplanted herself from the East Coast for Metonymy Media and, despite its eerie flatness, she finds Indiana welcoming and full of amazing possibilities. When she’s not sitting behind a desk, you can find Theresa reading plays and short story collections, walking the Monon Rail-Trail when she should be jogging, making books and jewelry, or studying black-and-white movies to further her quest to be a fast-talking dame. She believes great stories make you feel something, anything. Great stories are like thesis statements or hypotheses, they have a stance and make a case for something, somehow.

Theresa is a Summa cum Laude graduate of Susquehanna University, where she majored in Creative Writing and Theatre and minored in Spanish.

Technically speaking, Nate Brock is just a regular ol’ schmoe, but don’t tell him that. He prides himself on his curiosity and his never ceasing attempts at making the best of whatever is in front of him. He stands firmly behind his belief that laughter and writing are the two things that can keep a person sane. His stupendous affection for poetry has resulted in his current studies as a poet at the University of Indianapolis. His greatest interests would consist of continuous attempts to write something worthwhile and his endless engagement with the people he’s surrounded by. Toss a beer his way and you’re sure to keep him around for some quality conversation.

Brock is a student at the University of Indianapolis.

Position: Writing Intern

Bethany Walters

Position: Writing Intern

Twitter: @bethanyrwalters

Ryan Plummer is a consummate professional. He often wonders out loud, “How could I be any more professional?” To which people often respond, “I’m sorry, but I think I over-served you, can I call you a cab?” Ryan likes both laughs and goofs while he isn’t so busy being professional. He has been a lifelong reader and writer who hopes to be published one day for his poetry and fiction. His hobbies include collecting records, comic books, and stories of personal adventure (that usually do not include heights). He has his undergraduate degree in English Lit and has worked in Korea teaching English. Most importantly, Ryan wishes to someday beat the Russians in a Go-Kart race on the moon.

Ryan is a graduate student at the University of Indianapolis and an ESL teacher at Internexus Indiana.

Bethany Walters would like to be first in line to become a robot when technology advances far enough. However, while stuck as a human, she whiles away the hours by reading voraciously (Isaac Asimov and Vladimir Nabokov are particular favorites), practicing and playing various musical instruments, drinking tea like a fiend, and, of course, scribbling poetry at all hours of the day.

Bethany is in her final semester at the University of Indianapolis. She was published in Highlights Magazine at the age of five, and has been published more recently in Etchings.

Carl Corder

Position: Project Writer

Twitter: Carl remains twitterless because he is too busy writing.

Bob is a man of conundrums; you’re as likely to find him spending a Friday evening quietly reading and writing as in the midst of a large group gathering. A conversationalist, writer, thinker, and dreamer, Bob is comfortable in a wide variety of settings. He enjoys night drives in the lights of the Circle City and trying new recipes in the kitchen. Bob hopes to live a quiet life of reflection, reading, and writing, and wants nothing more than to help tell stories that shine a light in the world.

Bob is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis and has written for Etchings and The Reflector.

Carl Corder left The Flatness of Indiana some years ago and found Montana, where he now lives and writes. Maybe Carl watched that Robert Redford film one too many times, but now he’s stuck somewhere between the Sawtooth mountains and the Blackfoot River, where he spends the few snow-free afternoons lacing flies into the eager mouths of trout. It’s less picturesque than you might think, and he misses The Flatness badly. Our stories, he believes, begin with place—physical, cultural, technological—and he writes to inhabit those stories, whether that begins at a website or in the hay field.

Corder is a graduate of the University of Montana’s MFA in Creative Writing program.

Ernest Hemingway

Position: Human Resources

Twitter@ehemingway

Don Sedberry has been obsessing about words since one of his middle school teachers made the mistake of complimenting some of his poetry. He is addicted to reading, has a book tucked in every corner of his home and often reads them concurrently. When Don isn’t plucking at his guitar in an attempt to learn a song other than “A Horse With No Name,” he is experimenting with new ways to cook great food. Don lives in the historic Irvington neighborhood. He is truly passionate about speaking his mind, his wife Laura, their cats, Fiona and Puck, local restaurants and delicious wheat brews.

Don is close to completing a degree in New Media Communication from Indiana University – Kokomo.

Ernest Hemingway got his start as a writer for the Kansas City Star before enlisting as an ambulance driver on the Italian front of the Great War. It was there that he picked up his trademark cynicism and understated style, and his experiences in Italy served as the inspiration for his famous work, A Farewell to Arms. Around the Metonymy offices, Ernest keeps the rest of the staff in check with his no-nonsense approach to writing. He loves fishing, whiskey, and five-toed cats, and is frankly a bit of a pill to work with in such close quarters.

Hemingway didn’t have time for college because he was busy fighting for your freedom in Italy, thank you very little.
